The Bauhaus Tropicale is a small residence overlooking a scenic paddy field towards the north, with rolling hills in the horizon. The site was badly affected by a great flood in 2018 and since then the local authorities have limited the size of buildings that can be built in the area. This house is hence built on a stilted base that functions as garages with a compact first floor containing the living space with kitchen, two bedrooms and bathrooms. The facade facing the fields is completely opened up with large folding windows to bring in the beautiful landscape visual as well as to make the compact layout feel airy and spacious. The simple layout and unembellished facades evokes the early Bauhaus designs, albeit the detailing being adapted for the local tropical warm humid climate.
