Nangelil Ayurvedic Hospital, one of the oldest hospitals in the region practicing traditional medicine, has been seriously considering modernisation of their facilities while safekeeping their traditional treatment practices. The group wanted to build a new facility in a serene site facing a valley of paddy fields to attract the new herd of medical tourists to experience their traditional methods. The project is a hybrid between an Ayurvedic Hospital and a Health Resort where treatment is combined with teaching of traditional medical practices.

The Masterplan divides the site into an Institutional Zone towards the east where the Health Resort and its associated amenities are present and a Residential Zone towards the west where the Learning Centre and Hostel facilities for the staff and the students are located, flanked by a Manufacturing Zone where the existing medicine factory is located. The steep slope of the site towards the valley in the north has been utilised to provide uninterrupted valley view from all in-patient rooms and cottages. The secluded Residential Zone provides a calmer atmosphere away from the busy workplace.

The Health Resort consists of 3 compactly arranged block of healthcare facilities and several regular in-patient rooms with shared treatment rooms and suites with attached treatment space within while the detached cottages have their own treatment rooms and pantry for more convenience and privacy. The 3 compact blocks are massed according to their functions and the amount of public interaction required. Blocks with specialised departments and in-patient rooms are zoned towards the south as they require less out-patient interaction. The blocks towards the north have main entrances to the casualty and out-patient section. The topmost floor of each block with maximum view towards the valley have been assigned with shared spaces with respect to their basic functional character.
