A re-interpretation of 19th century Scottish Architect Alexander Thompson's ideology to suit contemporary needs and preferences. Thompson's Villa Maria, also known as the Double Villa, at Glasgow is re-imagined for 21st century living in the same urban setting. The competition was organized by Alexander Thompson Society.

Double Villa is a celebration of the beauty of sharing represented through its formal integrity, characterizing a cohesive form containing two private and distinct spatial units which elevates its outward expression to a much grander scale. Together Villa is a re-interpretation of those formal qualities to suit the needs and tastes of 21st century families.
Together Villa consists of two identical private residences of 128 sq.m. each, connected by a single parti-wall. The compact layout of the residences permit retention of all existing trees and around 70% of the site area for gardens, creating ample party and recreation space.
The original doublefloor layout is retained while the formal mass is re-modeled to derive a context specific spatial structure for the new site setting. The symmetry of facades is subtly broken by virtue of mirroring the layout as done in the original Double Villa plan. Interior layout, however, is modified to create a more contemporary open floor plan. Apart from the peculiar massing, several design elements like the vertical window slits, recessed windows and gentle roof slope are also inspired from the original concept.
