The Shared Villa is a stacked multi-family residence with two single bedroom apartment units on the ground and first floors, a common utility space and roofed terrace in the second floor and a music room and studio in the basement. The two meter level difference between the eastern and western boundaries of the elongated site is used to carve out a basement where sound insulated studio and music rooms can be conveniently located with ease. The site, being part of an Agraharam, is only around 7.5 meters wide and hence the rooms are arranged in a simple linear fashion. The services are stacked towards the northern side for ease of maintenance and the living spaces abut the southern boundary of the site. A niche for a home garden is voided towards the south western part, which is also the lowest point, of the site; allowing the positioning of a water retention pond as a landscape feature in the garden.
